About this event
Donna Intrepido, Lon Turnbull and Becca Dickstein are leading a series of walks approximately once a month to explore different parts of the Wissahickon Park, at our doorstep in Roxborough and Manayunk.
These walks will vary from easy, with flat walking surfaces along Forbidden Drive, to challenging ones, along trails that have too many obstacles so that bicyclists aren’t allowed on them. The walks will introduce our group to some of the myriad places in the Wissahickon.
Wear appropriate clothing (no flip flops), insect repellent; bring your water bottle, a snack and hiking poles if you want.
These walks are separate from the Thursday morning walks led by Donna.
Our second walk will be at Andorra Meadow on Friday, Spetember 26 at 10 am and will be 1 to 1.5 miles long. The paths in Andorra Meadow allow individuals to take shortcuts back to the starting place if necessary. The terrain in the meadow slopes gently but is otherwise fairly flat. It is not handicapped accessible.
To go to Andorra Meadow, follow Ridge Avenue to Northwestern Avenue and turn right. Follow the road until it reaches the end and turn right into parking lot. We will meet there.
From the parking lot, we will climb up to the meadow, which is the most challenging part of the walk. We plan to follow the loop around the meadow’s perimeter. Please note that Andorra Meadow is a birding area and we will be there during migration. If you have them, please bring binoculars. Binoculars may also be borrowed from the Andorra library.
You can download a free map of the Wissahickon Park. Go to your app download place on your phone and find the “Friends of the Wissahickon” map and guide and save it to your phone.
